In keeping with what has become a tradition of sorts, yesterday’s Academy Award nominations included several dozen nominees who will be honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Festival organizers tallied up a total of 24 nominees — with a combined total of 30 nominations — who will be appearing at the film festival on panels, at tributes and during screenings.
“The academy has sent us an amazing 25th anniversary gift just two days before our 25th celebration begins,” Roger Durling, executive director of the festival, said in a news release. “Congratulations to all of our nominated guests — we look forward to hosting you.”
Director James Cameron, who is being recognized with the festival’s Modern Master Award, leads the pack with nominations for best picture and best director. His blockbuster film, “Avatar,” also received nine nominations.
Actors Sandra Bullock and Colin Firth, who will receive the American Riviera Award and Outstanding Performance of the Year Award respectively at the festival, also received Oscar nominations.
Other nominated actors who will appear at the festival are Carey Mulligan, Gabourey Sidibe, Vera Farmiga, Stanley Tucci, Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges. The festival’s Director of the Year, Kathryn Bigelow, also received a best director Oscar nomination.
Several other festival attendees, including screenwriters and directors, as well as films that will be screened at the festival also received Academy Award nominations.
