A red Porsche and a Metropolitan Transit District bus tangled on Highway 217 yesterday morning, ending with the sports car crinkled beneath the bus’s front end.
The car’s driver, a male in his 20s, had to be extracted from the wreck with the Jaws of Life. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital, a Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman said.
The collision occurred just before 10 a.m. as the two vehicles were traveling northbound near Sand Spit Road. No other information was available and the spokesman said the cause of the crash was under investigation.

I was on the bus : 2/6/2010
Bus just left UCSB headed toward 101 on 217. Porche was headed toward UCSB. Porche passed a car in front of it at an extremely high rate of speed and started spinning out of control (probably hit a pocket of water and hydroplaned as it was raining very hard). It spun into our lane and hit us head-on. The impact forced the bus left and into the oncoming lane (thank GOD there was no traffic behind that porche!!!!). The bus finally came to rest facing North in the Southbound lane.
