A local high school student earned top honors in an international photography competition this month after judges selected his images as among the best out of thousands of entries.
Elliot Serbin, a junior at Laguna Blanca High School and a photo intern at the Daily Sound, took the grand prize in the portfolio category of the Photo Imaging Education Association’s International Student-Teacher Photo Competition for his series of images titled “Papa.”
He was among 84 entrants honored out of a field of 1,362 from nine different countries, and will receive $4,000 worth of photography equipment. In addition, his school will receive $3,000 worth of photo equipment. Serbin’s photo instructor at Laguna Blanca is Chris Johnson.
The top photos were shown recently at PMA 2010, a major photo convention in Anaheim, Calif., and will be part of a three-year traveling exhibition throughout the world.
