A series of lane closures are scheduled this week along Highway 101 and nearby roads due to the Milpas to Hot Springs widening project.
This evening, the fast lanes between Milpas and Salinas streets will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. to remove trees in preparation for widening of bridges over Milpas Street. At least one lane in each direction will remain open.
Crews also plan to close the northbound offramp at Milpas Street today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to move equipment, and then again tonight from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for work on a new sound wall.
Alisos Street will be open to local traffic only between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. this week from Indio Muerto to Cacique streets as a result of the sound wall construction.
During the week, lane closures at the Milpas Street underpass will occur as needed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., although at least one lane will remain open in each direction. As early as next Monday, crews will begin pile driving for new highway bridges over the roadway, necessitating full closures of the street at night and partial closures during the day.
During the full closures, motorists will be directed on a detour using Mason, Quarantina and Cacique streets.
Workers also plan to close Cabrillo Boulevard under the highway as needed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week as they work on a new bridge barrier along the southbound lanes.
Closures of the southbound offramp at Hot Springs Road and onramp at Cabrillo Boulevard, as well as the northbound offramp at Cabrillo Boulevard, will also take place. Flagmen will direct traffic to Milpas Street as a detour during the construction.
During the week, reversing traffic control will be in place as needed along Old Coast Highway as paving and sidewalk work occurs. Delays up to five minutes are expected.
