Police blotter — June 30

By DAILY SOUND STAFF — June 30, 2009

June 26, 7:50 p.m. — Witnesses called authorities after seeing a vehicle swerving and hitting a curb near Cliff Drive and Miramonte Drive. Police found a car matching the description parked in the 1000 block of Miramonte Drive with a 30-year-old man in the passenger seat.

Witnesses said the man had been driving and switched seats upon parking. His two sons, 6 and 11, were also in the car. The suspect denied driving the vehicle.

A DUI investigation led to the man’s arrest. Officers noted the suspect had a paper cup of beer in the passenger compartment. Authorities booked the 30-year-old on $20,000 bail for child endangerment, DUI, driving on a suspended license and possession of an open container.

June 27, 4:25 a.m. — A call of a suspicious subject looking into an apartment brought police to the 1800 block of Chapala Street, where they found the suspect as described. The 26-year-old man was standing outside of a window with his zipper down, but was not seen performing any lewd acts.

Residents of the apartment confirmed they did not know the suspect. The man said he was looking for his cousin, but could not come up with his cousin’s last name or residence. Authorities took him into custody on $2,500 bail for peeping and prowling.

June 27, 6:50 p.m. — While towing two vehicles for expired registration in the 200 block of N. Alisos Street, officers noted one vehicle had tabs that expired in September 2009. However, the vehicle registration itself had expired five years ago.

The owner of both vehicles, a 54-year-old man, said he had received the registration tabs from a friend and placed them on his vehicle to give it the appearance of being legitimately registered. A records check revealed the suspect had a 2007 warrant for hit-and-run causing injuries.

Police booked the man on $20,000 bail for possession of fraudulent registration and the $5,000 outstanding warrant.

June 27, 10:55 p.m. — Responding to Stearns Wharf for reports of a woman spitting on people and threatening them with a knife, officers discovered the 45-year-old suspect had cut her own arms and hands.

Witnesses told officers the woman had started yelling about people ruining the ocean by fishing before she pulled out a silver pocketknife and started chasing random people. She reportedly threw the knife off the pier before police arrived.

Authorities booked the woman in lieu of $2,500 bail on a citizen’s arrest for brandishing.

June 28, 10:21 p.m. — After arriving at Vera Cruz Park on reports of a stabbing, police found a 45-year-old man who had been stabbed in his right arm. The victim told officers that he had been watching television with his friend, a 31-year-old man, when an argument ensued and the suspect stabbed him.

After locating the 31-year-old in the 500 block of Santa Barbara Street, police learned the two men had been watching television when the victim allegedly made sexual advances toward the suspect, who became upset and stabbed the victim with a knife.

After being taken to the police station for further questioning, the suspect began smashing a chair against the window of an interview room, destroying the chair. As he continued to hit the window, an officer subdued him with a Taser.

Authorities booked the suspect for assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism. The victim was treated and released from the hospital.
