Crashes keep safety officials busy

By DAILY SOUND STAFF — June 30, 2009

Several traffic collisions kept emergency responders busy yesterday, including one that sparked a small grass fire in the Santa Ynez Valley.

First, a crash on eastbound Highway 217 near the Highway 101 connector resulted in two minor injuries. The incident occurred at 4:45 p.m. yesterday and involved two vehicles, a white Nissan Altima and a white BMW 325, according to initial California Highway Patrol reports. Authorities said the collision is still under investigation.

Half an hour later, a single vehicle crashed and rolled over near Foxen Canyon and Alisos Canyon roads. The single occupant managed to climb from the vehicle and was taken to the hospital by private transportation, County Fire Capt. David Sadecki said.

Fire officials said the crashed vehicle caught fire and started a small grass fire that spread to approximately a quarter of an acre before firefighters brought it under control. The cause of that incident is also under investigation.
