Man arrested for placing camera in woman's room
A 54-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly concealing a hidden camera inside a “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book, and placing it in Carpinteria woman’s bedroom, authorities said.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives say the man, Donald Lee Bedford, cut a hole near the spine of the book and placed it on a bookshelf, which faced the 30-year-old woman’s bed.
“The video contained both audio and visual recordings of the victim and her boyfriend in her bedroom, while they were talking and in various states of undress,” said Drew Sugars, a sheriff’s department spokesman.
The woman discovered the camera over the weekend, Sugars said. The investigation led to Bedford, who was a friend of one of the woman’s family members.
Detectives served a search warrant on Bedford's home yesterday and seized computers and other electronics.
Bedford was booked into county jail on suspicion of secretly videotaping a person with the intent of invading one’s privacy, a felony, and videotaping without consent, a misdemeanor.

One has to wonder how common this phenomenon is with other random incidents to various degrees like the Max Factor heir or even Ralph Lowe years ago.. even preceded by Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" whereby how privacy is compromised to the victim's detriment.
This particular incident doesn't say much for the book "Chicken Soup for the Soul" however, being that it be a book earmarked to be unlikely to be read, picked up, handled or moved.
Guess we can presume that the perpetrator will learn whatta real man is inside, and in the pen at that !
So much for sappy sentimental touchy feelie pulp material these daze. Poor woman will always associate that book now as "Intruder for the Soul."
