Foodbank puts out call for food, cash

By COLBY FRAZIER — July 23, 2010

Unusually low donations from food manufacturers and a general slowing of monetary gifts have left the Foodbank of Santa Barbara County with empty shelves, officials said.

The organization has had difficulty stocking the 260 nonprofit member agencies that rely on food from the Foodbank, prompting a plea from officials for food.

“Children are home for the summer and their families don’t have enough food to feed them,” said Erik Talkin, the Foodbank’s executive director. “We need the people who are lucky enough to have jobs to dig deep and help by donating food and funds so we can continue to feed the growing number of hungry people.”

The Foodbank is most in need of cereal, canned goods, toilet paper, diapers and money. According to a news release from the organization, every $1 donated to the Foodbank now distributes $9 worth of food.

The food shortage has come at a time of great need, officials said.

“We are seeing more and more of the unemployed who have never needed our services before,” said David Coelho, of Catholic Charities, in the news release. “We are seeing it all; new families at our distribution sites, families who have lost their home, or one of their jobs. They have never been in this position before.”

Nonperishable items can be dropped off at the Foodbank’s Santa Barbara warehouse, 4554 Hollister Ave., Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information about making a donation to the Foodbank can be found at www.foodbanksbc.org.

Endless needs by nonprofit organizations.
Their budgets would be better if they stopped encouraging illegal aliens, and more resources would be available for Americans instead.

Foodbank has money woes? : 7/23/2010

How can the Foodbank open offices on State St. at the rate of $50,000 a year in lease fees one month, then turn around the next and say they have no money to feed people the next?

Misplaced Priorities

That's because your former donors are now unemployed : 7/23/2010

I used to send my donations to you faithfully for years, but now I'm out of work and just hanging on. I know I'm not the only one. Those of us who used to donate food and money now need your services. Unemployment sucks.

TWO THINGS WORSE than being a game piece in someone else's game is:
a)not knowing that you are,
and
b) not caring if you are

IMPEACH OBAMA : 7/24/2010

FoodBank low on reserves is a new trend .. despite technological advancements in agriculture and all time high production. FoodBank is supposed to benefit Federal funding. A hungry society is a dangerous society and there we have homeland security dumping $250,000 in the local police agency for a silly little tank.
Look, we need to govern by Paper Ballots Only. Low income housing needs to earn equity in the property paid on behalf of the tenant. Cops need to have 10 year maximum moratoreum to serve, without overweight or petite men cruising around safely for s pension. This in itself will save a LOT of money against the tax base, which is burdoning free enterprise in the private sector.
It's inexcusable that the Foodbank is running shortages and the Board of Trustees need to check their director.
And THIS nation needs to check where exactly the US President was born! (not here, but in Kenya).
Foodbank is a Federal subsidized program.
Where'd the money go, Obama?
