An injured 53-year-old hiker was rescued Wednesday near Inspiration Point, just west of Tunnel Trail, authorities said.
Search and rescue crews were dispatched to the trail around 5:45 p.m. A Santa Barbara County fire helicopter hoisted a paramedic to the man, who had injured his knee and was unable to walk. The man was then taken up the trail to a power line access road on a stretcher-like contraption that was fastened to a wheel. From there, the man was taken to an ambulance.

inspiration point? tunnel trail? Really? And they needed to hoist a paramedic, by helicopter, to someone they could have driven/walked to in ten minutes? Really?
"stretcher-like contraption that was fastened to a wheel" : 7/23/2010
At least this repeat of a press release changed it to a reader friendly description.

This is getting outrageous. The Sheriffs' office is overusing the helicopter to justify a budget for that helicopter. And they are having more delivered soon. All the while Clown Brown has his hand out for a county sales tax increase to build a jail - a tax and a jail that will probably not be needed should the measure to legalize weed pass.

It was not the Sheriff's Helicopter : 7/25/2010
Hey SB Citizen;
Read the news release. It clearly states it was a SBCO FIRE DEPARTMENT helicopter.
i know it was for a fact, as I listened to the entire call on the Co Fire radio channel. And helicopter 309 handled the hoist operation.
