Santa Barbara-local Dee Elias wants to change the way tourists experience Santa Barbara.
Dee started DeeTours of Santa Barbara, a limousine company using a one-of-a-kind 21-foot red Jeep Wrangler, in hopes of bringing more jobs to the unemployed while driving tourists around the city.
“This gives tourists a chance to see the city in a whole new light,” Dee said while the limousine parked along Cabrillo Boulevard. “We are very excited at the prospects of showing the city to everyone.”
The limousine’s unique offering for visitors to Santa Barbara and Montecito includes an affordable tour, which features popular scenic spots and breathtaking scenic views.
The costs for adults is $18 while children its $10.
“We will take people up and down state street, the Riviera, the coastline, it’s going to be a great experience for everyone,” Dee said.
The one-hour city tour provides part-time work to unemployed area residents. Dee will employ one driver and an MC. The MC will speak to guest on locations in Santa Barbara and answer questions about the city.
“This is important to have residents work for my company even when times are tough,” Dee said. “The limousine will provide part-time work.”
DeeTours’ Jeep limo provides VIP limo service and is available for private charters.
Local dignitaries and community leaders have been invited to attend the ribbon for the grand opening at noon today. The ceremony takes place outside of the Santa Barbara Visitor’s Center, on the corner Cabrillo Boulevard and Garden Street.

Stupid Spin : 7/24/2010
Sure, it's great to do a story on a new business opening. But to tout this as helping to solve joblessness? Gimmie a break. Stupid spin. Also, how much more automobile exhaust will that thing put out going up hills and all over all day?

"Local dignitaries"??? Yeah, right.
no thanks : 7/25/2010
This city doesnt need another "Dog & Pony" show.
She`s like a prostitute that`s been pushed to her physical limit!
I went on... : 7/25/2010
I went on the tour yesterday....
Except for the fact that this town is beautiful & would be so even in a ricshaw...I would not have known where in Ca. I was because the story I recieved was NOT about Santa Barbara!!...
May I suggest that BEFORE any co. or entity [ie: museum etc] portray themselves as "informative",to do some research concerning the area.

Speaking of prostitution, now THAT could solve alotta unemployment around here. Even Erma Bombeck calls Motherhood "the second oldest profession" .. so how 'bout it? You make it seem like a bad thing .. as long as it's of consent, why not?

Title should be "Tour company needs to hire two employees for their new business". Don't twist a story!
tour with locals : 7/25/2010
I say go to Dwight Murphy and pick up a local drunk guy, then swing around by the labor line, so the tour can be in spanish too.

scam : 7/26/2010
So far this company has gotten alot of media focus, however it should be noted, this same company has two "limos" are not charging a fee, but asks for a "donation" has no class B drivers, nor as far as anyone can tell any other necessary legal requirements for this kind of tour, I hope they work this out, but they got a nice fat ticket this weekend for it, was embarrassing to watch, I think bicycle taxis have more liability insurance than these limos.

Well I happen to meet Dee this weekend and was impressed by her drive and knowledge and the fact that she seemed like a sweetheart. I hope she succeeds!

Remove this dumb article! : 7/27/2010
I am surprised that such a bad article could be written and turned into a what is essentially an add. This is not news. This is not a business. They are not helping the unemployed. Seeing this horrible written story being posted for days on end is absurd. I have seen the Jeep tour. No comment. Is the writer of the story related to the tour owner? How else could they write such a piece and have it forced upon us news readers?

Shame on all of you who wrote negative comments! : 8/1/2010
I've taken the tour. The tour is awesome! It's clear to me that these negative comments were written by people who have either not taken the tour, or who might be threatened by what Dee Tours has to offer. The tour covered most of the major historic sites in SB. The tour guide was knowledgeable and accurate (I use to volunteer for the Downtown Org and know a few things about SB). In fact, I learned a few new historic things about SB that I didn't know before! (Yes I verified the information was correct).
If you love all things historic and beautiful about SB, take the tour and decide for yourselves!
P.S They did not ask for donations, I PAID $15 USD. Oh, and if they only hire 10 people, they are doing what they can to help resolve the jobless situation. Wait until they have an entire fleet of red Jeeps!!!

Great tour....thank you! : 8/1/2010
My husband and I took the tour while we were visiting Santa Barbara. We are staying in Pismo Beach with my daughter and her family and wanted to spend the day in Santa Barbara. Dee Tours came highly recommended and we were not disappointed. The tour was informative and very fun in that convertable Jeep! My hair did get a bit blown though. They were so nice to us that they even helped us find our car which was parked in an industrial area that we couldn't find our way back to!

hi my name is Grayson. I am 9 years old : 8/1/2010
I am visiting my grandma and grandpa. They toook me on the tour of Santa Barbara in the red jeep. We saw the mission. It was a lot of fun. This year in school when we have to do the mission report I'm going to do my report on the Santa Barbara mission because it was so big and very pretty. They even gave us blankets in the red jeep. Thank you. Grayson

To Brillo: not sure where you are coming from--please contact me and we can discuss this.
To "No Thanks:" Dog and Pony show? Prostitute? Wow, strong words from someone who doesn't know me or my intentions. Let's talk so I can understand you.
To "Touring SB:" Several us took the Chumash tour and it was amazing! Thanks for writing in and I totally support your
informative tour!
To "50 yrs here:" We did a lot of research and even the research was conflicting! If you have some information you feel is valid, please contact me. Giving accurate information is important to me and I appreciate your help. So, please contact me and we can go over any discrepancies. Thank you in advance!
To "Scam:" This was interesting! Totally have no idea where you got your facts since not one thing stated is true! How judgemental you are and you couldn't even sign your name. Come on now, why did you write this garbage? What is your motive? Write or call me, I'm curious who you are and why you did this.
To "Ter...:" Appreciate your kind words on my behalf! It was a pleasure to read some supportive comments!
To "Remove this dumb article:" No, I'm not related to the writer of this story. He asked to meet with me for l0 minutes and this was what he wrote. Write me and let's discuss this rather than basing your opinion on this article.
To :SB Native:" Thank you for the time to write such a nice, supportive rebuttal to the negative comments previously. Alex and I have worked very hard putting this business venture together.
To "Irene and Babe S:" What a nice surpirse to see that you wrote in! I guess you made it back to Pismo okay! Please come visit us again soon in Santa Barbara. It was a pleasure to meet you!
To Grayson: Thanks for writing in! Glad you liked the Mission and the blankets! Send me a copy of the report when you are finished--I'd love to read it!
Re hiring of employees: Actually I initially hired 14 part-time employees who would rotate as driver and/or tour guide. Some haven't worked in over 2 months. I can operate as driver and tourguide without any employees, but choose not to do this. Yes, money is important, especially starting a new business. But, that is not my vision for DeeTours.
TO ALL OF YOU WHO WROTE IN: Thanks for your comments. Definitely, Food for Thought on all levels. Please feel free to e-mail me directly if you want to discuss anything further. We are a new company, learning daily, and open to suggestions. Our vision is a fun, affordable tour of this great city in our unique jeep limo. We appreciate your comments and your support. With gratitude, Dee of DeeTours of Santa Barbara, Inc.

Welcome new business : 8/2/2010
I think it is wonderful to see a new business starting up when so many businesses are closing down. I have seen the DeeTours jeep around town and it is fabulous! The jeep crew and passengers all look like they are having fun and I can't wait to book my tour. Dee, bravo to you for taking on a new business at this time. I wish you all the sucess you deserve. Keep pushing forward and don't let the turkeys get you down.

Great tour! : 8/4/2010
We are visiting from Northern Calif...had a wonderful tour even though my 82 year old husband did nap through a bit of it! After 56 years of marriage I do however forgive him. We are both former educators and found the tour informative and thorough. Our tour guide was darling and someone who absolutely loves and appreciates all things Santa Barbara. Best of luck to you Dee Tours.
