UC Santa Barbara raked in a record $222 million in external research funding last fiscal year, a 28 percent increase over the previous year, school officials announced.
The jump was attributed to increases in funding from federal research agencies. The school received $192 million in federal funding last fiscal year, including $67 million from the National Science Foundation.
In the past decade, the amount of external funding funneled to the school has doubled, a news release announcing the funding jump said.
The campus also received $40 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding, which was spread out among a number of programs.
The largest research grant, $15.7 million, was awarded to the school’s Institute for Energy Efficiency to establish the Center for Energy-Efficient Materials.

222 Million Dollars for energy efficient agenda? Wow. Does Al Gore have anything to do with this?
While the Elderly of this nation are being neglected under the Health Care fiasco, we somehow have the money to dump for the research of energy conversation in the land of plenty.
UC are the experts in garnering public funds, yer couldn't innovate themselves out of not having to do so.
The Regents prevail to be culpable, not capable under the current fiscal crises.

Hey, don't knock the UC System.. if it weren't for them, I'd be homeless or something. I've been able to live off the Federally subsidized grants and loans, got a job for the State somewhere, and feel very safe in my job security. Who cares if I don't know anything or have no work ethic. At least I'm not sucking off the homeless resource center! And even though my capacity continues to be completely supported by public funds via the tax base - at least the property values around here are met by what my income provides.
I'm tellin ya, the gravy train is working at the UC. Maximum benefits and incredible pay! And if someone doesn't Luke the way I do things, Ive got a powerful union to protect me from EVER losing my job!
Who could ask for more?
