IV stabbing leads to two arrests

A late-night stabbing on one of the busiest blocks of Isla Vista sent one man to the hospital and authorities have arrested two men in connection with the assault.

Sheriff’s officials said a fight broke out in the 6600 block of Del Playa Drive on Friday at approximately 11:45 p.m. and a 20-year-old man from Los Angeles County sustained several serious stab wounds during the altercation.

“He was cut up pretty good, but it looks like he is going to survive,” Sheriff’s Spokesman Drew Sugars said in a phone message.

Deputies detained two suspects — a 17-year-old boy from Woodland Hills and 20-year-old Donald Pounds of Chatsworth — and ultimately arrested both on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The juvenile was also arrested for possession of marijuana, authorities said.

Lt. Brian Olmstead, who oversees the Isla Vista Foot Patrol, said the assault started near a party and may have been sparked by a minor conflict.

“Someone accused someone else of hitting them, and the fight started rolling from there,” he said. “It wasn’t gang related, it was just one of these fights that occurs out in I.V. due to people drinking or a lot of people being in a little space.”

Olmstead said the victim was stabbed in his right side and near his ribcage, in addition to sustaining several cuts to his arm. The 20-year-old was taken to the hospital for treatment and may have suffered a punctured lung, the lieutenant said.

Deputies responded quickly, dispersed the crowd and located the two suspects, authorities said, in addition to providing initial medical aid to the victim.

While not students at any local universities, the suspects and the victim were all visiting people who attend either UC Santa Barbara or Santa Barbara City College, Olmstead said. And with the party atmosphere and potential for fights breaking out, he said it’s not unusual for people to bring weapons into Isla Vista.

“Unfortunately, alcohol drives a lot of the crime that happens out in I.V.,” he said. “It’s unfortunately not going to be the last serious crime we’ll have out there.”

Sheriff’s officials noted that the number of deputies on patrol in Isla Vista during the weekend has doubled to 20 as the school year kicks off at UCSB and SBCC. Olmstead said he is also attending multiple planning meetings as law enforcement prepares for Halloween.

they haven't been charged with anything yet, geniuses. the article says they were arrested ON SUSPICION of assault with a deadly weapon. they may be charged with a more serious crime when the investigation is complete. it would not be attempted murder, however. that implies premeditation. it would be attempted manslaughter.

The point is that Bobby and Timmy will be charged with ADW, while Hector and Pablo would be charged with attempted murder. If you weren't so busy trying to be smart,you wouldn't be so stupid.
