Youth helping youth — it’s the goal of the second annual Youth Making Change program held by the Fund for Santa Barbara, which offers grants and other assistance to youth-led projects.
Each year, a group of local teens involved in the program assess the needs and various issues facing youth in Santa Barbara before making grants from $500 to $5,000 — for a total of $10,000. A similar effort is also taking place in Santa Maria.
Recipients of the grants must meet a set of basic requirements: projects must be youth-driven, benefit local teens, address a social issue or youth need, be located in Santa Barbara County, and have an adult ally or sponsoring organization.
Those interested in applying for a Youth Making Change grant should visit www.youthmakingchange.org, www.fundforsantabarbara.org, or visit the Fund for Santa Barbara office at 26 W. Anapamu St. Applicants must also attend a workshop on October 15 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Twelve35 Teen Center, 1235 Chapala St.
Questions can be directed to Cristina Gonzalez at cgonzalez@fundforsantabarbara.org or 922-1707. Participants must submit a completed application by 5 p.m. on November 20.
