The mind's great challenge

Once upon a time Mind decided to challenge Breath (aka Spirit); Mind had become pretty full of itself lately and felt dissed for a perceived lack of respect for its importance in this world.

Breath humbly took a seat as Mind detailed its frustrations.

"Look what I've created!" Mind exclaimed. " Exquisite architectural heights, incredible medical and scientific advancements, profound works of musical and artistic brilliance. Who can deny my incredible contribution to this world?  Am I not the most vital entity in the Universe?"

Breath waited patiently for Mind to conclude its impassioned testimony and then spoke, "Since you seem to be doing so well by yourself, perhaps I should leave."

Breath got up to depart and suddenly Mind experienced dizziness, confusion, and an impending sense of doom.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Where are you going? Mind pleaded. "I feel like I'm disappearing."

Breath calmly returned and Mind was relieved when its faculties immediately recharged themselves.

Breath then softly spoke to the slightly dazed but fully attentive Mind, "It's true you have accomplished so much. Magnificent achievements indeed. But now you have seen that without me, all your efforts are impossible."

Mind asked, "Does that mean you want me to stop my activities and just pay homage to you?"

"No," Breath sweetly answered. "Think, create, ponder, imagine all you want. Just remember that I provide not only consciousness but also your capacity for appreciation, kindness, and compassion. These things you cannot create for yourself. Save some time in your day to remember my gifts to you. Why? Not because I crave your reverence...only because I want you to feel the love that I have for you."

Mind understood the wisdom being imparted and thanked Breath for its enlightening lesson.

Mind then sat back and realized it had a lot to think about.
