Cottage Hospital appoints new chief medical officer

By DAILY SOUND STAFF — Dec. 19, 2009

Following a national search and rigorous interview process, officials at Cottage Health System selected Dr. Steven Linn as chief medical officer and vice president of medical affairs.

In his new position, Dr. Linn’s role is to represent the administration to the physicians, share the medical community’s perspective with other administrators and the hospital’s board of directors, and oversee the hospital’s residency program.

Formerly the chief medical officer at South Jersey Healthcare in Vineland, N.J., Dr. Linn began his duties at Cottage Hospital earlier this month. He was selected by a search committee that included medical staff officers, board physicians and medical advisory members at Cottage Health System.

Prior to his position in New Jersey, Dr. Linn served as vice president of medical affairs for Kingston Hospital in New York and the Drake Center in Cincinnati. He holds a degree from Dartmouth and a medical degree from Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Linn completed an internship in internal medicine at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center, served as a resident and research fellow in the departments of anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins, and completed a residency in preventive medicine and earned a master’s degree in public health at Boston University. He also worked for several years as an internist at Braintree Hospital in Braintree, Mass.

No wonder the unemployment rate in California is so high. We always hire people from out of state for these lucrative positions. I think we need a Californian to understand California issues. It would be like me going to New York to manage something there. I don't know New York, so I wouldn't be as good as a New Yorker.
