Obviously, we don't have a pro football team in Santa Barbara. For this reason I need to pick a West Coast team and I am looking for Santa Barbara residents to help me pick one. Now, I am originally from Boston so my first priority will always lie with any team from the New England area. However, I always pick a West Coast team, because I live here now and if I plan on going to games I need someone to root for. For me I already have it in the two other major sports - for pro basketball it is the Clippers because they will never beat the Celtics (or anyone else for that matter). Baseball I enjoy the Dodgers (because they are the West Coast Red Sox). However, I never have been able to pick one for pro football on the West Coast. I am looking for help and input from the readers - this is why I include my email address at the end. I am going to cite the pros and cons of each team as I see it as far as I can tell. I will probably pick the one that most reminds me of Santa Barbara because I love it here.
Chargers - San Diego is probably the most like Santa Barbara in terms of climate. The people there always seem pretty nice, and the girls are so hot it is insane. My eyes would literally pop and twirl around like a chameleon. As for the team I have some basic trouble rooting for them because there coach is such a clown. Norv Turner can turn anything great into something mediocre. He could literally sit in a Ferrari and it would turn into a Fiat. I like LT because watching him is normally watching the best, and I like that off the field he is a decent guy. However, they do seem to constantly under-perform.
49ers - San Fransisco is one of my favorite towns on the West Coast. They are liberal, the food is way above average (big shout out to those chowder bread bowls), and they have a good bar scene. Those are all important to me. However, the down side is that they are surrounded by the beasts of the sea known as sharks so I don't even go on piers on the off chance that they might collapse and a shark would eat me. As for the team, I like Frank Gore but he has been hurt lately. What I really like is there coach though. Coach Mike Singletary actually once mooned the team to motivate them. That is what I am talking about. Crazy coaches make for fun times in the stands and by the TV. Also they are good for those Coors lite commercials.
Raiders - The Raiders seem to be my worst option. They are run by the Howard Hughes of sports - AL Davis. He is completely insane and the fans should probably find a way to buy him out. I bet if the city of Oakland all banded together they could purchase an 80 percent control. Kind of like how the Packers are owned by the citizens of Wisconsin. Al Davis used to be a decent owner, but as of late he is just driving this team into the ground. Even in his state of mind he should still be able to know that his choices are horrendous. Of course another down side of being an Oakland fan is you need at least three felonies to be let into the stadium. The positive is all your friends all have a cool new clubhouse (jail).
Those are my three options. I could root for the sunny (if under-performing) Chargers, the San Fransisco 49ers (even though I would really only be rooting for their coach), or I could go hop aboard the Spruce Goose and for the Raiders. I invite you , the reader to help me with this one.

team choice : 12/24/2008
be careful, becoming a raider fan and a member of the raider nation is a life long commitment, a way of life. Once you are in, it is very difficult to get out and obviousley along with the fun of winning comes the agony of losing. The nation is unique, it is everywhere in every town, city, state and country. You have instant friends, however as of late, you just have them to commiserate with. There are times I wish I wasn't a raider fan, but alas, win lose or tie, a raider fan til I die

Adam show love fo da ChargerNiners, man! : 12/26/2008
Seriously, as long as the classless and obnoxiously old hat, 'rebel' 'bad boy' Raiders aren't in the mix, who says you have to pick one team, Adam? I sadly am cursed/blessed with being old enough to remember the glory days of SF. I love what Singletary did as far as attitude adjustment this season. I like sports, but not narcissistic players (like T.O.). The Charger are fun to watch but they can also be frustrating. So, that's why I prefer to root for both. I also INSIST that the Raiders lose as often as possible - especially to the Chiefs (Davis traded Marcus Allen to 'em)...and of course the ChargerNiners. Oh yeah - I am actually rather proud that there is not a pro football team nearby. What a money pit.

With so many Minnesota transplants here, let's go with the Vikings in football.
