Local kids compete in annual track event

By DAILY SOUND STAFF — March 9, 2010

More than 500 students from throughout Santa Barbara County gathered at La Playa Stadium last weekend to compete in the Tournament of Champions, a track-and-field event held annually by the Endowment for Youth Committee.

Organizers said they offer the athletic program to many participants on scholarship as part of the group’s mission to provide free or low-cost academic, cultural, social and recreational programs to local youth.

EYC officials thanked volunteers from the Dos Pueblos and San Marcos high school track teams, as well as volunteer work by members of Club West Track & Field.

Since 1986, the EYC has focused its programming and events on serving minority and disadvantaged youth throughout the South Coast. More information is available at www.eyc4kids.org.
