My awesome experience with the press : 8/27/2009

Ray Estrada interviewed me briefly on a beautiful sunny Santa Barbara day when I was between client appointments. He was personable and asked great questions. After reading and hearing people's horror stories about being quoted out of context or made to look like an idiot in print in the past, I admit I had some trepidation when asked to be interviewed as a local woman in business. I have to say Ray Estrada really got me, as a person. He has great integrity and good interview skills. He made me comfortable enough to talk about my past, he made me laugh and relax and in reading what he wrote he made me smile. And no misquotes. My faith in the press has sky-rocketed.

This past summer my grandmother passed away. For the past 5-6 years she had moved from Iowa to Arizona and was living in an assisted living facility. My mother became her primary friend and caretaker. And as a special gift to my mother at my grandmother's memorial service the family wanted to give her a special gift. We decided a perfect gift was a charm bracelet representing everyone! So in less than ten days, Calla was able to take my list of charms of everything from a "stork" to a "wrench" charm (18 in all!) and was able to put the bracelet together. It has a great deal of meaning to my mom. And it would have never happened if Calla hadn't done her usual yeoman's job taking care of her clients. Thank you Calla - you took a very special event and helped make it even better.

Calla, you personally selected a set of professional looking jewelry to help me look fabulous for an event that required I look more polished and sophisticated. I'm in the medical field and wear a lab coat when examining patients. I was going to be introduced to physicians, patients and friends of the practice. I didn't have the accessories I needed for my coming out party. Calla and I did a video show on local cable television about 25 years ago. It was called "Discover Your Best Look." She did the introduction to my awesome skills as a visionary hair stylist. She was one of my "before and after" models. She already had great hair, but using her facial features we enhanced her look and highlighted her high cheekbones and eyes. Even then she was designing beautiful jewelry. After we did the show together I gave her a picture of my favorite scissors and she used an heirloom diamond I had and made a pin exactly like the scissors. It looks fabulous and identifies me wherever I go, and people know I'm a stylist. Calla is my Personal Jeweler.

When I smashed and destroyed my wedding ring a friend of mine said "I know a fabulous jeweler who can fix your ring...AND she will come to you". I called and set up an appointment and was more than surprised when I opened the door to Calla. We both reacted immediately as we had gone to school together many years before! I was upset and a bit lost as to how were we going to recover my ring. Well fortunately Calla knew just what to do! We sat for quite a while as she interviewed me getting an idea of what I wanted. She made drawings, then on our next visit wax models...and when the finished ring came it was more beautiful than I imagined. I am often met with comments of strangers...."what a beautiful ring!" Each time I tell them it was made by Calla Gold....THE BEST JEWELER I KNOW!

I recently had Calla repair and design some jewelry for me. She took my unwearable or slightly off-balance pieces and either did beautiful repairs or created gorgeous pieces out of simple stones I had in much less attractive settings or designs. Her prices are very reasonable, her sunny disposition is uplifting, and I am getting many compliments on the new items I am now excited to wear. I would recommend her to anyone, and find people are asking who she is when they see the jewelry I'm wearing. She'll work with anything. You don't need to have expensive jewels for her to create a very interesting, attractive piece.

I am slightly older than Calla, and began my young entrepeneurial career selling Stanley Home Products to my family members and neighbors. It is ironic that the company that Calla cut her teeth on, Fuller Brush Company, bought out Stanley Home Products. Calla's original "entrepeneurial spirit" has always remained with her, and our paths have crossed several times. Recently, our paths crossed again and we were able to share our love for jewelry, sales and people. We have not even begun to talk about our love for horses, another blessing we have in common.
