County firefighter dies after battle with cancer

After a hard-fought battle with cancer, County Firefighter Dean Moore died on Sunday with his friends and family by his side. He was 51.

Hired by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department on April 22, 1996, Moore served for more than 13 years as a heavy equipment operator stationed in Los Alamos. In recognition of his service to the community, all county fire stations are flying their flags at half-staff until further notice.

A fire department funeral service is also planned for Dec. 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Ynez Mission, 1760 Mission Dr. A reception will follow at the Veterans Memorial Hall, 1745 Mission Dr.
