Applications are currently being accepted for the 2010 Harriet Miller Youth Leadership Awards Scholarship, an honor given to an outstanding teenager in the Santa Barbara area who has shown leadership and community service.
Applicants must be high school seniors in the Santa Barbara Unified School District or a resident of Santa Barbara with a minimum grade point average of 2.5, and must have completed 45 community service hours by the deadline of Jan. 4, 2010.
The award is presented by the Downtown Organization in honor of former mayor Harriet Miller’s contributions to local youth. Applications can be picked up and returned to the Twelve35 Teen Center at 1235 Chapala St., and can be downloaded from www.sbparksandrecreation.com.
A selection committee of representatives from the Santa Barbara Youth Council and the Downtown Organization will review applications and choose a winner. The award and scholarship check will be presented during a luncheon on January 14.
