Dec. 14, 4:30 p.m. — An officer on patrol in Ortega Park spotted a man urinating in public and detained the 47-year-old suspect. The officer noted the man was answering nature’s call within 30 feet of a public restroom, as well as within 30 feet of a public playground. The suspect received a citation for public urination.
Dec. 15, 7:40 a.m. — Officers took a 43-year-old man into custody after finding him sleeping in a makeshift camp at Plaza del Mar Park. Authorities noted the suspect camps in the park daily and encourages others to stay there as well. The suspect’s personal belongings are frequently strewn about his campsite, including sleeping bags, wheelchairs, clothes, food, books and alcohol containers. Arresting officers said the 43-year-old has been an ongoing cleanup burden for park workers and hasn’t responded to citations in the past. Police booked the suspect for illegal lodging. Bail was set at $2,500, although the arresting officer requested a bail increase.
Dec. 15, 10 a.m. — A woman called police on December 14 to report that her boyfriend had assaulted her while they were on a boat docked off East Beach. She told officers that the 57-year-old man pushed her to the floor, pulled her hair, banged her head on the steps and stomped on her twice. Police were unable to locate the suspect on the day of the incident, but caught up with him the following day on Stearns Wharf. The 57-year-old admitted he had been in a verbal argument with his girlfriend on the boat. He said the victim was seated on the steps and blocking the exit, so he grabbed her legs and pulled her down the steps before walking past her. He told police he did not pull her hair and wasn’t aware that he had hurt her. However, the suspect said he might have stepped on the victim as he passed, and admitted it was possible she hit her head on the steps when he pulled her down. Authorities booked the 57-year-old for domestic violence. Bail was set at $25,000.
Dec. 16, 5 a.m. — Dispatchers alerted officers to be on the lookout for a blue 1998 Ford Explorer that had been involved in two separate hit-and-run traffic collisions. At 8 a.m., an off-duty officer spotted the vehicle in the 1100 block of W. Valerio Street. While preparing to impound the vehicle, police realized a man was inside. A records check revealed the 20-year-old occupant was on probation. He told officers the vehicle did not belong to him, but that he had permission to borrow it from a friend. Authorities contacted the registered owner of the vehicle, who told a different story. The victim said she had been at a party the night before with the 20-year-old and several of his friends. She suspected the man had taken her car keys, but he denied any involvement. The victim eventually left the party in tears and took a taxicab home. She reported her vehicle as stolen and was not aware of any hit-and-run collisions. The victim told officers that the suspect did not have permission to use her vehicle. Authorities booked the 20-year-old without bail for grand theft auto and probation violations.
Dec. 16, 8:10 p.m. — Reports of a domestic disturbance brought officers to a home in the 700 block of W. Carrillo Street, where they determined a 21-year-old man had assaulted his wife in front of their two sons, a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old, following a verbal argument. The suspect reportedly choked his wife, then head butted her, causing swelling and a 1-inch cut on her forehead. All four family members were in a small bedroom at the time of the assault and the 4-year-old son was screaming during the altercation. Police officials granted an emergency protective order for the victim against the suspect. Authorities noted the 21-year-old had a history of felony drug violations and the victim told officers that he had committed at least three prior unreported domestic assaults of a lesser degree. Police booked the suspect for aggravated spousal battery and child endangerment. Bail was set at $100,000 and authorities requested an immigration hold.

More stories, yes! : 12/18/2009
Please do publish more police reports. I live close to downtown SB and I have seen incidents near the clubs that I believe should have been published so that SB residents have a better idea what goes on in our Santa Barbarian or is it Santa Babylon? The homeless who sit near the public parking lot ask the college crowd for pot. It's called "spareijuana"

On Patrol : 12/18/2009
No surprise this show is produced by Ira Distenfield of We The People infamy. He seems like just the kind of guy to glorify the cops, who are repeatedly shown to be insecure whiners ready to taze or shoot anyone who has the audacity not to cower before them in unconditional compliance.
On Patrol - Let's play cops and robbers : 12/18/2009
This show is awful. The show revolves around the brass, who always show themselves to be "involved" in the fight on crime. All I ever see is patrols officers doing stuff around town, but when the cameras come out, The Brass leave their desk, iron their pants (most of which are above their ankles), put on some make-up and actually think their actors. This show makes me think of kids who play cops and robbers.

we need more police : 12/18/2009
Why does it take 4 Officers to do anything, even traffic stops...... oh cause we're in Santa Barbara where there is no height requirement for the police, so 4 SB cops equal 2 in any other city....
unbelievable
SB Police hate on hispanics : 12/18/2009

Immigration Hold : 12/19/2009
Yeah, I can't imagine how someone like that could have even the slightest possibility of a questionable immigration status...
Hahahaha
casa esperanza may lose permit : 12/19/2009
the article came out in your paper, then I see nothing of the police blotter.that resulted from the action taken.
There was a lot of harrassment and very few arrests,as I watched the police do what they can to keep the casa in order.not the homeless.it works like this is that what your saying?we need more goverment to police the homeless?
maybe less homeless, maybe use that money sent to the casa for housing and jobs.it comes to about 100,000 a piece if you keep putting the homeless in jail and courts, never jobs or houses
"kill the homeless "PROBLEM
