Brothers arrested for Christmas morning brawl

By COLBY FRAZIER — Dec. 30, 2009

A 20-year-old was arrested on Christmas morning for allegedly kicking his little brother in the face during a drunken brawl, and when the father attempted to break up the fight, the younger brother bit and punched him.

The scene unfolded just before 2 a.m. at the family’s home in the 300 block of Palisades Drive on the Mesa.

When officers arrived at the home, Santa Barbara police Lt. Ralph Molina said the boys’ father had subdued the 17 year old. Meanwhile, the mother and sister were holding back the older brother, Bryan Devin Carreno, from further attacking the boy.

Both brothers were arrested. Molina said the 17 year old, who he described as being “extremely intoxicated,” smashed his head against the rear window of a police car. He said paramedics were contacted and assessed the boy before authorities took him to juvenile hall.

Molina said investigators were unsure what caused the fight. He said Carreno was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism, while the 17 year old was arrested on suspicion of battery and vandalism.

No Racist Comments Please : 12/31/2009

Anyone can get angry with booze, there is no reason to get racist.
I have a brother who is completely white and if you give him booze he gets instantly angry.
All this atricle presents is that people need to be in better control of their demons.

I agree that this article shows how peple need to "control their demons". Every person in this world has problems and while some know how to handle them, others resort to alcohol or other things. I'm pretty positive these boys will grow up and realize that family is what matters in the end....they just need to grow up. NO FAMILY IS PERFECT......

No Family is Perfect! : 1/6/2010

First of all this article NEVER indicated the brothers race! Second of all it's ignorant for anyone to assume that all Mexican/Hispanic people are illegal immigrants! There are many generations of families that have been BORN and RAISED here (U.S) so your comments on "opening up the borders" is just stupid. As many of you are quick to make a judgment against this family, just remember that no family is perfect! Regardless of race or social status every family has it's own problems, be it big or small. These kids come from a good home and their family isn't corrupt. This is about two YOUNG, immature boys (Not MEN) who made some very bad decisions that night. Hopefully they can reflect back to all their mistakes and finally grow-up! My heart goes out to the rest of the family for having to be put through such emotional pain and disappointment. I'm sure they never expected Christmas with the family to end up like this!
