The McCully family, including 10-year-old Job who has survived leukemia, a bone marrow transplant and a double lung transplant, traveled from Bigelow, Ark., to relax at the beachfront locale, resort general manager Dean Feldeier said.
“Our entire staff was so excited to participate in this incredible show and host the amazing McCully family for a week in August,” he said in a prepared statement. “Ten-year-old Job McCully is such an inspiration with his zest for life.”
In 2006, doctors found fungus on the young boy’s lungs, likely a result of the mildew-infested walls in the family’s dilapidated house. After lengthy hospital stays, he was allowed to leave in March of this year, but could not return to the home due to obvious health risks.
The family lived in a donated rental and struggled to make mortgage payments, but maintained their upbeat spirits. Job’s sister, 12-year-old Nicole, learned to give diabetes shots to her brother.
His father, Rob, serves as a deacon at a church and his mother, Tina, leads two church support groups for struggling married couples and addicts.
During their stay at the resort, the family went on a whale-watching trip, toured the city on a trolley and enjoyed other activities as their home was being overhauled in Arkansas.
